INNOVATIONS
(school year 2000/01)
Every Wednesday the school
was visited by a specialist child psychologist (it was a programme in
co-operation with the municipality and the school), who worked with the teachers
and the parents of the children who had mainly behavioural problems and
problems with their relationships with their parents.
In
addition, seven meetings were held (lectures) in co-operation with the parents
association and the parents’ response was very positive.
Towards
the end of the school year we acquired for the first time computers, five in
total, which were presented to us by the municipality. As a result, the
teachers of the programme set up a computer learning programme for the children
within the framework of the extended timetable.
Finally,
the educators of the school deserve congratulations owing to the excellent
co-operative atmosphere which exists between colleagues and enabled us to
change the interior appearance of the school by devoting many extra hours
(evenings and weekends) in order that the children should come to school with
more enthusiasm and to have lessons in a room that resembled a school rather
than some other government building. The children also participated in our endeavour
with much willingness. The parents association was of great assistance and our
co-operation with them was excellent. As a result, we were able to paint the
interior wall with paintings for children and other images and we placed
corkboards on the corridor walls on which the children display their handiwork,
which they make during their art lessons. In addition, we decorated the walls
with many pictures depicting various places in Greece.
The
school has completely altered its appearance and we are all, children, parents
and teachers alike, delighted with the results.
